Design Miami/Basel 2012

Being a non-profy in this field, I limit myself to review some installations which really catched my attention and to give a general idea of the fair.
At a first sight, I was really impressed of hearing most people talking in Italian, although only three galleries exhibited are From Italy. By the way, design and fashion are just some of the most crucial industries of Italy.
The fair presents a selection of exhibitors of furniture, decoratively art, vintage, jewelry and prototypes. Together with the most important supporters of the event: W hotels with the future award and Swarosky palace. Intriguing for the creative results are the collaborations with the fashion company FENDI (with the recycling of Selleria leather pieces turning into lamps and other objects) and VITRA museum as furniture provider of the fair.
The point is where art and design cross with each other? The result creates some unique and beautiful objects… That could fit well in the domestic (in the sense of home) framework. By the way most exhibitors are art galleries, not simply design ateliers like in the past….sometimes these labels show their useless role.
We do not have to forget that a great part of wealthy collectors are merely interested in the decorative side of the piece of art and barely interested in the cultural or financial sides of such kind of “objects”.
